Having come third in a recent national survey by Halifax to ascertain the best rural quality of life in Britain, Uttlesford has emerged as the prime area to search for new homes in Essex. Based on statistics for an array of lifestyle topics, including housing, health, education, employment and crime, the north-west of Essex came in just behind near neighbours South Cambridgeshire and East Hertfordshire as one of the most desirable places to find a property in the UK's rural areas.
Despite still being an area dominated by countryside and agricultural land, there are plenty of options for those hoping to settle in this area. With the M11 providing a direct link to both London and Cambridge, commuter rail links into Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport hosting domestic and international services to many major destinations, the area is well-connected as well as offering all the benefits of a rural setting.
Croudace Homes' substantial Foresthall Park development just outside the delightful village of Stansted Mountfitchet offers a whole range of houses spread over a number of distinct sub-developments. The scheme has been designed with a network of footpaths and cycleways to make getting around it safe and easy, and provides a direct link to the village without using the car. It's also within walking distance of Stansted Mountfitchet's railway station, that has regular services to Cambridge (35 minutes) and London (50 minutes). The airport is just four miles away and the M11, three.
The three-bedroom 'Argyle' house type at The Square provides accommodation over three floors. The master bedroom suite takes up the whole of the top floor, boasting a walk-in wardrobe as well as an en-suite shower room. It is priced at £259,950. At Foresthall Park Two, the £429,950 'Townhouse II' is a substantial five-bedroom house with a double garage and turfed rear garden. There's a kitchen/dining room and separate lounge downstairs, and there are fitted wardrobes and en-suite facilities to the two largest bedrooms.
The 'Villa' is an imposing three-storey house type available at The Quarter for £509,950. It also has five bedrooms, two with en-suite and fitted wardrobes, plus a luxurious ground floor that has a kitchen/breakfast room with separate utility room plus a lounge and a dining room, giving a really flexible and high-specification interior.
Other housebuilders are hard at work within the Uttlesford district. David Wilson Homes has recently launched Beaumont Place in Great Dunmow, which has a selection of 3 and 4 bedroom homes for sale from £314,995. The village has excellent local amenities and direct road links to Stansted, Braintree and Chelmsford. A few miles west in the new village of Priors Green, its Hartswood Mews development has three-, four- and five-bedroom properties priced from £274,995 to £474,995. In Saffron Walden, Oakhill Park has a number of three-storey homes with three or four bedrooms priced from £339,950 to £489,950.
Barratt Homes has its own development in Priors Green at The Mulberries, where there are just three plots unsold from £279,995. The "Home of the Week", the four-bedroom 'Woodcote', is set out over three floors. It has a kitchen/breakfast room, separate lounge/dining room and the second floor is devoted exclusively to the master bedroom suite, with its own shower room and dressing area with fitted wardrobes.
Bellway Homes is also constructing at Priors Green at The Coppice. The company is offering its own range of three-, four- and five-bedroom homes priced from £274,995 to £499,995. Priors Green is situated between the lovely villages of Little Canfield and Takeley, just a few miles from Stansted and the Hertfordshire market town of Bishop's Stortford.
