Basildon is a place very much on the up, and has come a long way since it was designated the site for a new town after World War II. Up to that point it was quite an average small village, albeit one that got a mention in the Domesday Book. Nowadays, new homes in Basildon are some of the hottest new properties in Essex, as the town undergoes a £2 billion transformation in a bid to seal its reputation as the commercial heart of the county and further its ambitions to be one of the top 30 retail destinations in the UK.
As the town centre benefits from the new influx of investment, with upgrades to the shopping district and other amenities, the introduction of new homes built to the latest standards and specifications is attracting interest from owner-occupiers and property investors. Great transport links make Basildon a suitable base for workers in many areas and some highly reputed schools in the district, along with excellent leisure facilities, bolster the town's credentials for family homebuyers.
A wide range of buyers will be seeking out homes at Beechwood Village, just two miles from the town centre. This development from Swan New Homes features one- and two-bedroom apartments and houses with two to four bedrooms, meaning there is plenty of choice for first-time buyers and those progressing up the property ladder. A new release of apartments is being launched on 23rd July, with prices from just £94,000. Houses start at £168,000. Swan New Homes operates part exchange, shared equity and deposit paid assistance schemes.
Barratt Homes' Axis scheme is one of two high-profile town centre apartment schemes bringing stylish architecture and interior design to the town. The one- and two-bedroom apartments here are priced from £127,995 to £166,995 and Barratt has just announced that it has been allocated funds to operate the Government-backed FirstBuy scheme, where buyers have only to pay 80% of the full price up-front to own their own home. The scheme puts buyers right on the doorstep of Basildon's extensive shopping and entertainment venues as well as the station.
Housebuilder of the Year Weston Homes has identified many London investors purchasing homes at Morello Quarter, its central development that also puts residents right in the heart of town. With phases of construction being brought forward to meet demand, there's little doubt that with prices from £125,000 to £167,000 for the different types of one- and two-bedroom apartments, purchasers are finding the high-quality interiors and host of communal features at Morello Quarter a major selling point.
A number of styles of three-bedroom home are currently on sale at Persimmon Homes' development at Church Park. Priced from £210,000 to £225,000, there are terraces, semi-detached and detached house types available. It's just a few minutes' drive from the development right into the centre of town and all of Basildon's excellent transport links - a comprehensive local bus service, half-hour commute into central London and the A127 and A13 leading to London and the M25 - are close at hand.
