Homebuyers in Suffolk hoping to take their first step on the property ladder soon should head straight for the special event being held at Barratt Homes' development of new homes in Ipswich, called Aspire, on Saturday 7th May, from 10am. The company is inviting first-time buyers to visit the development to discuss its Head Start initiative, a shared equity scheme that requires a deposit of just five per cent of the property price, and how it could help them buy one of the contemporary apartments for sale at the development.
It is generally accepted that first-time buyers are one of the groups of house hunters worst hit by the economic climate of the past three years. Numerous surveys have provided evidence that even if they find a property they want to purchase, the average first-time buyer now needs to save for years for the large deposits (20% or more) required by many mortgage lenders, and all the while renting is becoming more and more expensive - ironically, more expensive than buying in some areas.
"With rent on the increase first time buyers are often unaware of the options available to help them get onto the property ladder and taking that first step can seem like a very daunting task," says Rebecca Littler, Sales and Marketing Director, Barratt Eastern Counties. "The first-time buyer event at Aspire has been created for those who are thinking about buying a new home but are unsure about the finances involved."
With prices for the apartments at the city centre development, located in St George's Street, starting at just £99,995, a first-time buyer only needs to put down £5,000 as a deposit and find a mortgage for £80,000. Barratt Homes makes up the balancing 15% with an equity loan, which is interest free for up to ten years, which needs to be repaid over the ten year period or when the property is sold, whichever is sooner.
"Our Head Start scheme has specifically been designed for anyone with just a five per cent deposit who might not otherwise be able to purchase a property," continues Rebecca. "I'd advise anyone looking to buy their first home or anyone looking to get more information about the options available to visit Aspire on Saturday and speak to our team to find out how they could take advantage of this very popular scheme."
The event takes place at the development from 10am to 6pm this Saturday. One- and two-bedroom apartments at Aspire, within easy walking distance of the shops, waterfront and station in Ipswich, are priced between £99,995 and £129,995.
