New research shows that Milton Keynes is one of the cheapest areas to buy property in the UK. According to the latest figures from a well-known property portal, it can cost over 40% more cash per month to rent a home in the town than to buy one, and there are plenty of new homes in Milton Keynes being constructed right now. It's already a popular location for first-time buyers to find a property and is set to become an even more attractive hotspot if a new London to Birmingham rail link is built.
Built as a new town in Buckinghamshire in the 1960s to relieve housing congestion in London, Milton Keynes was deliberately located equidistant from London, Birmingham, Leicester, Oxford and Cambridge. A 45-minute train ride from London, there's a wide range of new homes to choose from in the Milton Keynes area, combining typical city amenities, such as a wide range of shops and restaurants, with plenty of green space on the outskirts.
Redrow Homes is selling a range of apartments at Bletchley Park, two miles from Milton Keynes' centre, which start at £146,950 for a two-bedroom flat. With good access to the M1, there's a train station opposite the development with services directly into London. In Broughton Manor, three and a half miles away from Milton Keynes' centre, Redrow is selling a range of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes. Near to lots of countryside, with Willen Lake and Broughton Linear Park close by, it's located near two good schools.
There's a range of other new homes to choose from in the village. David Wilson Homes' Inspirations features new homes starting from £144,995, going up to £263,995, with this housebuilder offering more executive homes at Reflections, where prices range from £259,995 to £449,995.
Country & Metropolitan (C&M) also has a wide choice of homes for sale in the area. Properties at Life in Bletchley, south of Milton Keynes, start at £215,000 for houses, and £139,950 for flats. A new phase of the development will be ready from next year.
In nearby Newport Pagnell, C&M is also selling homes at Redhouse Park and at luxury development Linford Reach. Located near the M1, Newport Pagnell is a good commuter destination, with London Euston only 50 minutes away by train. At Redhouse Park, homes are under construction in five main zones, with prices starting from £133,950 for two-bedroom flats, and £199,950 for three- and four-bedroom houses. At Linford Reach, five-bedroom homes start from £444,000.
Persimmon also has an array of new homes for sale in the Milton Keynes area, with two-bedroom flats starting from £134,258 for first-time buyers using the Shared Equity scheme on offer at Larkswood in Newton Leyes. Bigger homes are available at nearby Oakridge Park, where three-bedroom houses start from £239,950, and four-bedroom houses start from £250,000.
